# sorry, watched Gervais' Derek has sucked any humour out of me

# Is it as rubbish as it looked?
I generally like his stuff but the trailers looked abysmal.

# it's observational comedy
with poor observation and no comedy
and piss poor acting from Gervais and Pilkington

# Sounds excellent!
I'll get right on it!

There was a bit in Life's Too Short where they seemed to acknowledge that Gervais can't act, can't write and can't do any accent other than his own. I think it was Liam Neeson did most of it, though Jonny Depp had a line or two in that direction. By the sound it it, it's a pity he didn't pay attention to his own script...

# credit where it's due
you've got to admire his ability to make people watch and pay him when he's been consistently going downhill since the office

# This is basically true
Though a lot of Extras I thought was very good. Not quite as good as the Office, but very good. Problem is that since then he's not done much, and then came out with Life's Too Short which is Warwick Davies doing a sulky impression of David Brent, with added irritation. I quite liked Life's Too Short but it's nothing special. Derek looked fucking awful.

And yet, he's a multi-millionaire, probably many times over. It certainly is a form of talent.

# ^everything this man said
I do like Gervais, but he's definitely been going downhill. Derek looks just like that awful show he swore he'd never produce in Extras...

His twitter is funnier than anything he's produced since The Office.

# for someone such as myself working in the social care sector
it's great that Gervais is making careworkers look like fucking idiots who have nothing going for them other than kindness.

That was an utterly pointless pile of fucking wank, with the odd bit of lazy slapstick thrown in to substitute for the lack of any kind of functional comedy in the script or concept. It reminded me of a clip for encouraging donations on comic relief, presented by Gervais doing a shit impression of a retard.

# As someone said on twatter...
"Compare Derek, which is about Ricky Gervais, with Jo Brand's brilliant 'Getting On,' which is about truth.

# yes, I agree with this
I suspect Gervais has anecdotal 2nd-hand experience of care and clearly has at the very best, a superficial understanding of it. It's hard to see what he was trying to achieve. It didn't seem to be anything humourous and was hard to see if he was trying to convey anything positive whatsoever.
