# Kids today don't understand the stamina that those games used to take
Hours of your life spent playing it non-stop. None of this "save" business. Lightweights.

Woo!

# I feel we were perpetually lied to.
All of the games had a plot, none of them had closure.

I kicked prostitutes in the tits in Target Renegade for nothing. There was no hot chick to rescue. Only the game to play on loop, forever and ever and ever and ever...

# I finished 'Elite' though.
That's how boss I am.

# I never got beyond Dangerous
six whole weeks of solid playing. good grief.

# I don't think you can actually finish Elite.
But once you get the 'E-L-I-T-E' title and have completed all 3! missions there's little to encourage any more gameplay.

# I got to be "Elite"
...was there more to it than that?

I remember getting whacked a couple of times early on by the Thargons, but once I'd tooled up and felt ready to deal with them, the buggers were nowhere to be found :(

# On the Speccy version I was always in Thargoid space
Shortly after the dreaded 'Fuel Leak' warning.

# you could get into thargoid space, or whatever it was called
by doing something in hyperspace. pressing some combination of buttons. it always ended in tears.

# Thargoids, that was it
They only ever seemed to show up when you were completely unprepared :(

because the programmers ran out of time and didn't get the ending to work.

# The first Accounting software package I worked on had the same problem.
We sold it before writing the year-end routines as,'We've got 12 months to write that.'

Somewhat foolishly forgetting that financial year ends don't line up with Calendar year ends. That was a mad panic when a customer who bought our software in March wanted to run his year end in April.
