# May the image size get smaller
The following gif was misappropriated. I now discover I was wrong about big images so I would like to add the following prepared statement:

Sorry J-digital, I am a twunt. I will go back and read the FAQs.

# oh yeah, that's right, I should have said
THIS IS ALL HUGE AND SHIT AND IS BIGGER THAN THE MOON? ARE YOU FAMILIAR WITH THE MOON? OF COURSE YOU AREN'T AS IT IS DWARFED BY THE SIZE OF THIS GARGANTUAN IMAGE THAT NOT ONLY BLOCKS OUT THE MOON BUT IS BIGGER THAN THE MOON INFACT IF YOU PUT IT NEXT TO THE SUN IT WOULD BLOCK OUT THE SUN TOO THUS PREVENTING THE REFLECTION OF LIGHT FROM THE MOON THUS OBSCURING THE MOON YET FURTHER.

# was there a bigger one first?
haha, what if all the people that complain about file size nazis were complaining about the positive results of file size nazism.

That's actually quite likely and quite amusing when you think about it.

# It was a larger image, weighing in at an outrageous 106.6kb.
I felt a sudden disturbance in the board, as if millions of voices cried "FAQ" in unison, and then were silenced.

# I think my comment was perhaps ambiguous.
I said "image size" referring to the really big picture - not "file size" implying it didn't meet the FAQ because it was over 100k

# there's no limit on dimensions in the FAQ
"as far as pixel size goes there is no real limit"

KB is more specific "50k has always been a good target for a still image, but anything up to 100KB is acceptable. Likewise, animated gifs should be kept as small as possible, but never exceed 400 KB"

I could point out that your FAQ anim really could be optimized better ;)

# Well I live and learn - I always thought images had to be no bigger than 400 pixels wide
I will have Morph fist-ram a copy of the FAQs down my throat.

Also, I am useless at optimising images so any help you can render would be genuinely appreciated. :)
(, Fri 4 May 2012, 14:29, archived)
# 400 wide is the front page width
(yes bigger will work but it makes the front page look like its set up by a lazy web monkey)

Optimizing, other than finding a good automated tool (I use Animation Shop, a discontinued free gif tool from Jasc, now Corel) try doing things like copying all the static area from one frame across all the others to avoid background noise.
(, Fri 4 May 2012, 14:39, archived)
# Cheers HappyToast....
I am beginning to do that with some of the newer gifs I'm making (learned through trial and error in photoshop).

I've never used any other programs before but I'd love to have an automated tool to do the heavy lifting. At the minute I can't really do anything bigger than 30-50 frames lest the gif becomes unintelligible following optimisation.

# Ironically though, I don't think there's anything in the FAQ about the physical stupendousness of images
but very big pics can be annoying, it's true
