# Friends and neighbours, how y'all doing?

Psst, anyone game for a Wednesday draw-off?
(, Wed 23 May 2012, 11:24, archived)
# yep, should be about
(, Wed 23 May 2012, 11:28, archived)
# Okay, how about Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy?
Just re-read Mostly Harmless and it left me depressed.
(, Wed 23 May 2012, 11:32, archived)
# if you like, what time, 3pm?
(, Wed 23 May 2012, 11:36, archived)
# 3 p.m. it is.
Let's get crayoning!
(, Wed 23 May 2012, 11:42, archived)
# Then don't watch the film
(, Wed 23 May 2012, 11:36, archived)
# Too late.
It was a mess, but it did have some nice bits in it. Zooey Deschanel, mostly.
(, Wed 23 May 2012, 11:43, archived)
# Vogons were incredible
infinite improbability sequences (wool characters :D)
the look of Marvin (if not the voice)
and to a degree Ford and Zaphod

Ruined for me by Arthur appearing to be a bit bored and not constantly irritated
and the whole end bit
(, Wed 23 May 2012, 11:48, archived)
# And the way the plot just didn't seem to flow
Like it was oddly edited or something. I dunno. Maybe we're just spoiled by the memories of the TV series and its superior cast.
(, Wed 23 May 2012, 12:15, archived)
# lumpy and bumpy for sure
(, Wed 23 May 2012, 12:16, archived)
# Two fucking heads
How hard can it be to give one of the characters two fucking heads?
(, Wed 23 May 2012, 12:19, archived)
# Zaphod didn't have two heads in the film?
I've obviously blocked it from my memory more successfully than I'd thought!
(, Wed 23 May 2012, 12:24, archived)
# He did have two
but not simultaneously
(, Wed 23 May 2012, 12:32, archived)
# My point exactly
(, Wed 23 May 2012, 13:57, archived)
# I quite liked the way they did it (head under his head)
but not the way that it was an unfinished storyline - took his head away in exchange for getting the gun, then forgot to go back and get the head - sequel that never happened
(, Wed 23 May 2012, 12:45, archived)
# this is one of the main things I hated about the film
well, that and marvins voice and pretty much everything else
(, Wed 23 May 2012, 14:00, archived)
# I watched it, and there were a couple of giggles
But it very much felt that the film wasn't for me. Felt like a film for families that hadn't read the book. Too much goof and love story, not enough surrealism and logical reverse-engineering.

Also Marvin looked like an Apple iMarvin, which didn't sit with my mental image of a clanking mess of arduino boards and servos.

Oh well, got to move on.

# Has anyone read Eoin Colfer's effort?
I've not gone near it because its very existence makes me angry
(, Wed 23 May 2012, 11:58, archived)
# No.
The ending of Mostly Harmless does bug me though. I know Adams was famously shit at meeting deadlines, but it just feels like he got up one morning, thought 'Fuck it' and wrote the ending so he could go back to whatever it was he was more interested in doing.
(, Wed 23 May 2012, 12:09, archived)
# his interview on here where he came across as a bit of a cock put me off it even more
(, Wed 23 May 2012, 12:10, archived)
# and this
(, Wed 23 May 2012, 12:16, archived)
# My friend at the time was working as Colfer's agent, she tried to convince me that it was worthwhile
I think I said he should "fuck off and die" instead, and after that relations got a bit strained
(, Wed 23 May 2012, 12:20, archived)
# This
(, Wed 23 May 2012, 12:16, archived)
# I read it
because I got given a copy.

It wasn't terrible just sort of...pointless.
(, Wed 23 May 2012, 13:23, archived)
# Never read it,
but much like with Monty Python, I've had enough of it quoted at me to know I likely won't like it.

I'm sunburnt.
(, Wed 23 May 2012, 12:25, archived)
# no thanks

# he looks like he's about to give that girl who can't walk the "POWER" of the lord
mostly between the legs, thus making them work again.
