I think the OP is hinting that if public housing wasn't run for profit by corner-cutting privateers, then perhaps disasters could be averted by way of using proper materials, proper tests, proper installation checks and such

If corner cutting can be generalized to all capitalists, and it applied only to capitalists, you might have a point. However . . .

# It cant. I think we agree there.
But saving about £8k on an £8.6m project to dodge the non-flammable cladding should be avoided. Agreed?

# Of course,
but that sounds like a building code issue--not one requiring a shift from private ownership to the State.

# oh but we don't want any of that 'elf and safety
or any restrictions put on landlords to make places fit for human habitation.

# sooo
That seems to imply that a government not competent to enact and enforce regulations is sufficiently competent to manage that which it might wrest from the private sector. Wishful thinking at best, methinks.

People are using this as a proxy election to make a case that some how Tories are to blame etc. Whereas corner cutting has taken place throughout history on both private and public sector. An investigation needs to be done and if laws were not met then people need to be punished.

What people also don't remember is just all the horrible tragedies that have been done through government-owned ineptitude.
