Fuck
this word is based on an old scottish law. It stands for "Fornication (sex) Under Consent of the King" meaning that someone had to ask the king before they could sleep with a noble/rich person. 100% Fact. I swear this is true. I learnt it from my health ed teacher last year.

Be kind its my first ever post (and my first ever photoshop)!

It's not true at all...
...there are hardly any words made from acronyms before the 20th century.
Although, I would be interested to see some Faunication in action ;)

Or could it be that if they did fuck someone
they weren't supposed to, they could end up in the nick For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge?
Or is it something to do with the Old German 'fokken', to stab aound or penetrate?
Or what?
Welcome anyway. You'll never leave etc.

Given that the English language
is
directly descended fron Old Germanic, I'd suggest the latter....
(

over generalised perhaps
there's a fair old bit of french and latin and norse and gaelic and old english in there as well.

Anyone know if theres any truth in Golf being "Gentlemen Only Ladies Forbidden"?

Yes.
No.
(
verbal, Mon 27 Oct 2003, 23:15,

Same thing applies...
...it's an old word, so it's highly unlikely to be an acronym.
I don't know what the name golf means originally, but there were apparently lots of similar old Scottish names for games like golf before they evolved into the game we know today.
