The very thought of it...
On a minor, threadjacking note, does anyone know any programs that will examine the ID3 tags of MP3s and sort them into appropriate directories? I'm fed up of waiting an age to get the list of files in my mp3 folder over the network.

dunno if the new Windows version does it.

I know it will sort the playlists...

but I don't know how to set it so it would do any of the other tags

but it kept crashing on my PC. Don't think it could cope with streaming 2000+ MP3s over a wireless network @ 22Mbps. Either that or I had a dodgy MP3 it couldn't cope with.

and now it crashes less. Version 4.1.1

but i can't remember its name
oh.. i think mp3 manager can do it

I searched high and low for something to do just this, and eventually found The Godfather which does it perfectly :D

It does exactly what you want, and does it well :)
I've been using it for a while now and although it's a bit slow to load, once it's loaded it's absolutely great. Just so you don't spend ages digging for how to do what you want, when it's loaded, click the "Organize" tab, then choose the main MP3 folder from the list on the left.
Choose "Physically restructure"
In "Root Folder" put the root of the new directory structure, e.g. "MP3s"
My Subfolder fields go:
Field: Length:
%A 1
%A
%L
(, Fri 14 Nov 2003, 2:28, archived)
It goes:
C:\mp3
then, say for example, my A-Ha songs (shut up everyone, I know) from the album Headlines and Deadlines:
C:\mp3\A\A-Ha\Headlines and Deadlines
Edit:
If you wanted it to go
C:\mp3\A\A-Ha\H\Headlines and Deadlines
then you could use fields:
Field: Length:
%A 1
%A
%L 1
%L
I think :)
