# It's apparently really bad if you get it when you're adult
it turns into Shingles..when my youngest was small, I used to try and make her catch it. Whenever I heard any child had it I used to whisk her round to try and put a pox on her..and failed..

# yeah we held a pox party when
I got it and loads of other children were brought round to be near me. Then I gave it my dad, he was in itchy agony but I just liked haveing him at home for a week

# Make sure you have it young
My neighbours kid gave it to me as an adult and it turned into shingles which was a living nightmare for 6 whole bloody weeks.
It attacks the nervous system and was non stop big time pain the whole time.

# Err, thanks for telling me that.
I've never had chicken pox and I'm almost 20. Think there's a possibility I'll never get it?

# they have a vaccine now, y'know...
But, just to scare you:

Ten years old: Cousins get chicken pox. Mother takes us over there. We don't get chicken pox.
Sixteen years old: Sister, brother, and stepfather get chicken pox. I don't live with them, but I go to visit. Sleep in the same house with the scabbed-over brother and sister and still-infectious stepfather, and don't get chicken pox.
Twenty years old: Visit a friend who starts feeling sick right after I leave. She comes down with chicken pox. I don't.
Twenty-seven years old: Absolutely out of nowhere, I come down with chicken pox.

# Pox Parties!
Reminds me of South Park

I think Pox Parties are banned in Canada because it increases the likelyhood of mutation.

# I was immunised
and I turned out ok...

We just invited the kids who'd already had it, the kids whose parents wanted them to catch it, and the kids no-one liked. And then breathed on them.

# Fortunately I had it when I was about 5
just before I had glandular fever. The joy.
I'm just glad I had it early, not so much for health reasons but for the fact that having the disease with my surname would have gained me many titterings.

# anti-virals are the BEST THING EVER
because if you're an adult and come down with chicken pox, then the doctor gives you antivirals and sedatives, and tells you to sleep it off for the next two weeks.

And then your husband goes off to a scifi convention that you were both supposed to go to and all you do is play Rollercoaster Tycoon and cover up all the mirrors in your house so you don't have to see your scary scary face.

# One day I hope to find a wife*
