I've decided to get my car new licence plates. They've not arrived yet, but you can get the idea from the sticker they sent on ahead

Ohio is a suburb of Manchester.

There's a New York Road - the A64(M) - where I live in Leeds.

# most of america
is named after other places, so its not surprising
(, Sat 21 May 2005, 17:18, archived)
# The thing about original place names
is that they mostly mean really stupid things that have become forgotten through overuse, such as ox-ford. This was all very well in the distant past, but in the modern age names like "Great Sandy Desert" and "Bend" just don't give a new place the right kind of enigmatic dignity.
(, Sat 21 May 2005, 17:30, archived)
# Yeah,
I agree.

# All the housing developments where I live are named after what they built over
"Laurel Acres, Oak Glenn, Shady Brook"
It's sad.
(, Sat 21 May 2005, 17:37, archived)
# There's an Ipswich too
and just like the one in England, it's in the middle of nowhere. There's one in Australia as well, in New South Wales (near Dubbo, which is a great place name.)
