I am stuck with a Kodak SLR-type(style) DX6490 until I can afford either a D200 or the new D80.

perhaps...
...you could go for a D50, wait for a D50 replacement or pick up a second hand D70 or D70S? They're all good cameras. Having said that the D70/D80 kit lens is excellent.

I want high resolution as well as the image quality.
So I'm looking for at least 10mp

I really like macro photography so would need a good macro lens. Once I have a few good pics, I could then blow them up bigger than A3 etc
