Sunshine was technically introduced in the 50's.
It was trialled in Bath on 5th August 1956. The success saw another trial in Skegness on 19th September 1958, and then widespread adoption in England in the early part of the 60's.
It was introduced in Wales in on 5th August 1976 (to mark the anniversary). It is yet to be introduced to Scotland.

watch an episode of Darkplace before watching Torchwood, then it becomes rather entertaining.
I think of it as Garth Marenghi’s Dr Who.
