Flat screen technology has come on in leaps and bounds. Most are easily viewable from every angle and most are pretty clear. Sure there are some shit ones out there but they're no longer ridiculously expensive and, particularly with the advent of HD, they offer much better picture quality and clarity.

They can't display standard definition quality very well; it's much worse than cheap CRT televisions because they have to scale the picture up.
Most of the content we'll be getting for the next five years at least will be standard definition, so buying an HD TV right now is just stupid.

However I've seen some amazing upscaling on some TVs (that didn't cost the earth) and shite upscaling on TVs that cost 2 grand.

Bottom line is, the technology is there and at a reasonable price, but you need to do your research before purchasing.

Buying a 32" LCD TV that costs £299 is no doubt going to be shit.
