I could describe in a painful amount of detail as to how they would be able to, it starts with a representation of our number system, it describes some basic elements using the first transition state of hydrogen as a reference, which they would know about, just to make sure they understand the syntax of the message, it shows the double helix structure of DNA, a picture of the solar system, blah.
