Evenin'

also, a request if you will: anyone know where I might find a link to do forward-scrolly images properly, this was the result of hours of trial and error and it's still ver' ropey.

I'm sure it's all about perspective, science and maths but I am not clever/educated enough to do anything more complex just now!

Photoshop?
Ctrl T to transform mode
Hold Ctrl to move vanishing point
Scale image holding Shift and Alt
Press enter to apply transform
Keep pressing CtrlShiftAlt +T to create lots of duplicated frames scaled in the same way as previous frame

for perfectly smooth looping:
Start the animation from the 3rd frame, and end it 2 frames before the end.
fade in the early unused frames over the top of the end of the animation, and fade out the unused end ones over the beginning.

how do you mean?
this is what I meant, if you do it with a picture of a road, it will make it loop nice and smoothly. gif size should be less, if anything.

According to the keeper I was speaking to at lunchtime
all the antics of yesterday (our 'stock take') may have induced an early labour in the female, but it's to soon to tell; the pregnancy hadn't been noticed. The baby was still apparently fine when I last poked my head round the door of the Clore Rain-forest Walk through about half four. Press said no press release until they are confident it will survive, so this is a b3ta exclusive :)
