# Harsh. She's occasionally funny.
It should be a wiggly, rather than flat baseline.

Massive TJ:

If anyone remembers Barbarossa's tale of a mandelbrot rug from the Nerd QOTW, it's been updated with a picture and is most woosome.

# I think you must be ocassionally mistaking catherine tate for someone else

# It may be that I'm occasionally drinking heavily.
Most of her characters seem to be funny the first time you see them, but they don't develop and get repeatedly recycled to death. It's a problem that seems to afflict numerous sketch shows IMO.

In good news, first Futurama film is out on region 2 on the 7th of April I think.

See me drool like a dalmation regarding a ham.

# I've had it on region '0'
AVI format for 5-6 weeks. You'd have been welcome to a copy, you may as well wait now for a nice boxed version.
(, Thu 13 Mar 2008, 14:05, archived)
# yes, I am in agreement with you.
I didn't even know there was going to be a film. Excellent.

# there are going to be 4
they are being seriallised in the US (not sure how well that'll work).

Also I'm unsure of my spelling of "seriallised"

# It should be Seasonized for the yankfolk.

# aha! so it really IS you brits that are trying to dumb things down for americans!
so that you can come back later and say "see, that's why you're stupid"

i'm still only 50% in agreement over all the homeless Us, though.
(, Thu 13 Mar 2008, 14:15, archived)
# most of the "americanised" spellings annoy me mildly
but to fair they are just as effective as communicating their meaning as the originals are.

"Lazer", however, can fuck right off.
It's an acronym, yanktards.
(, Thu 13 Mar 2008, 14:17, archived)
# oh god
"lazer" will get you just as much of a spanging here. i promise you that much.

# Am I the only person on here..
Who doesn't despise her?

She's making a living by taking the piss out of the very idiots who watch her...
(, Thu 13 Mar 2008, 13:57, archived)
# We have politicians for that.
Besides - she's only where she is because her boyfriend's the DG of the BBC or summat.
(, Thu 13 Mar 2008, 13:58, archived)
# also she has really cracking tits

# One series of 'Am I bovvered'
was mildly amusing. Three series is taking the piss. She has done some alright stuff, and I'm interested to see what she's like on Dr Who, but frankly, if she ever does 'Gran' again I'll start cutting myself.
(, Thu 13 Mar 2008, 13:59, archived)
# If she does gran?
You're going to turn emo?

Just change the channel... it's much simpler
(, Thu 13 Mar 2008, 14:04, archived)
# No way man
I turned nu-metal when they cancelled Birds of a Feather and prior to that I was Goth circa 'Duty Free'. I was mostly rockabilly during One Foot in the Grave.
(, Thu 13 Mar 2008, 14:12, archived)
# 'Gran'
Is uncannily... no exactly... like my great aunt and is the only thing she does that has my family in stitches. :)
(, Thu 13 Mar 2008, 14:09, archived)
# But that bovvered thing - I mean ...
It's so original, and funny, and well worth doing over, and over, and over, and over again.
(, Thu 13 Mar 2008, 13:52, archived)
# I saw her tv show for the first time last week
If it wasn't for the canned laughter I would have had no idea it was supposed to be funny. Therefore I agree with this graph.
(, Thu 13 Mar 2008, 13:57, archived)
# I just hope she doesn't get hooked on smack
and ends up being universally adored like those other talentless junkie no hopers the country worships with sickening passion.

# I'm not too bothered about
Tate and her comedy. I just don't watch it. Like any of these sketch type shows ( her, boosh, Little Britain, 3 non-blondes and the spin-off, Bo Selecta et al ) When they are new they are fresh and quite often hilarious and well deserving of a 6-8 episode run on BBC3 or Ch4 but then some mental case has the idea that they deserve another run and another and another until you end up hating it with a passion because there is only so many times you can hear the same tired joke before you want to kill people.
Very few sketch shows can pull off a long run. Bring back the fast show is all I am saying.
(, Thu 13 Mar 2008, 13:58, archived)
# Reeves & Mortimer
that flippin' bingo advert Vic's doing the now is funnier than a lot of the stuff you mentioned above.
(, Thu 13 Mar 2008, 13:59, archived)
# What's on the end of your stick Vic?
I loved those two. I do however think I might be disappointed if they came back in a similar format. I think that level of insane mentality was just right for the 90's.

I think I might do a Lloyd Grossman picture now.
(, Thu 13 Mar 2008, 14:03, archived)
# I found her pretty annoying and unfunny the first time I saw her.
But yes, I just avoid her.
(, Thu 13 Mar 2008, 14:00, archived)
# Hale & Pace and The Russ Abbott show
were far better than things like Little Britain and Catherine Tate in my opinion. But perhaps the new sketch shows can see the weaknesses of variety.

Edit: ... and although the Fast Show was good, it kind of gave birth to catchphrase comedy.
(, Thu 13 Mar 2008, 14:02, archived)
# Really?
Hale and Pace?

Even as a child I knew they were shit.
(, Thu 13 Mar 2008, 14:03, archived)
# haha
they were shit, but there was at least more variety... *props up flimsy argument*

# The last series of Mighty Boosh struggled
At least the League of Gentlemen knew when to quit. Same goes for the Fast Show. Have a listen to "Down the Line" or whatever it's called on Radio 4 for Whitehouse and Higson comedy gold.
(, Thu 13 Mar 2008, 14:03, archived)
# That's entirely it.
All the best ones knew when it had run it's course and knew not to alienate the fans by milking them ( although LoG Apocalypse was near the taking the piss line )
(, Thu 13 Mar 2008, 14:08, archived)
# I'm quite a large mighty boosh fan
but I finally got round to watching the first two of the third series and I'm not interested anymore.
(, Thu 13 Mar 2008, 14:13, archived)
# I downloaded some early Boosh stuff off audible
excellent and worth revisiting

esp as there is bugger all else on at the moment

Inspector Monkfish

They all start great on radio, one good tv series and then crap
