I thought you were referencing Frank Tipler
who believes that he's proven the existence of God and that that God has to be the God of the Bible. For a notable physicist who's worked with some big names and is frankly well-respected in his own right he's got some pretty fucked-up ideas. I thought Penrose was barmy for arguing that quantum gravity is the root of consciousness but Tipler's got him beat.
