I localised some Yahoo stuff once from US-EN to GB-EN. I'm sure the majority of Americans can only understand words of one syllable (or less).

Have a weekend in New York. Buy the software that you need. Chuck away the packaging, manuals etc. Keep the discs and the serial numbers though.
This should take half a day. The difference between UK and US price should make the holiday either very cheap, or free.
I used to do this in the 90s, when me and the missus could have a quick break and still be in profit.
