the FAQ states that one should spend more than a couple of minutes on an image and then the mods start front paging toap.

is a whine about the image challenge. How interesting.

You can search your own posts by popularity, and by substituting anyone else's user number instead of "me" you can see what the most clicked posts are by any given b3ta poster.

edit: or, you could do what Kamikaze Stoat said.

which one? Ah pylons
Yep! I think I've whined about two compos now. Pylons and this. Pylons were better as it least it was a challenge of shoppery skills and hummums generation. This is a toapfest.
(, Fri 30 May 2008, 2:31, archived)
Which was one that surprised me - my initial reaction was "Pylons? What the SHITTING FUCK?!?" but I thought there was a surprisingly high proportion of good entries.
Personal opinion, and all that.
(, Fri 30 May 2008, 2:36, archived)
that post was the initial reaction one, it turned out a lot better than expected.

Possibly a boarder who's seen the many successful versions of the challenge at places like SA.
And there's no reason a challenge entry can't conform to those rules.
And even if not- who cares, if it's funny? And some of them are. Which is the point.
(, Fri 30 May 2008, 2:28, archived)
We don't want those middle-class oiks thinking they have any influence.

Ed: actually I've got an idea: Let the Aussies pick the challenge!
"Paaaaaahta-shop 'STRAYA!! Stick it up those soap-dodgin bastaaards and show 'em how good we raaaly aaaaaaaaaah!"

The more I think about how much it would piss off the day shift, the more I like it.
(, Fri 30 May 2008, 2:47, archived)
It's like a bandwagon. They're funny until people start posting stupid stuff and stuff that's bindun heaps before. Which is frustrating.
(, Fri 30 May 2008, 2:39, archived)
Still, my approach is: if the challenge inspires you to make something funny, go for it. If not, go and do something else instead.
I got one image challenge suggestion (spoonerisms) picked, and there was plenty of support for it from a lot of people on /board. As soon as it was announced, lots of other people jumped out of the woodwork to complain about how shit a challenge it was. Everyone has different opinions, but one thing that annoys me about b3ta is how many people seem to come on here purely to complain.
(, Fri 30 May 2008, 2:46, archived)
There are plenty of crap entries, some of them mine. Same as every week. Even when it's a good suggestion that turns up a lot of quality ones, there are always people bitching about it.
My suggestion wasn't meant as a dig at SPN in particular, I just thought it would be interesting if "whine about the image challenge" was the image challenge. I think it could break some brains.
(, Fri 30 May 2008, 2:23, archived)
'whine about the image challenge' image challenge
and then add in some
lololololrofl self-referential humours are teh funnny
for good measure :)
(, Fri 30 May 2008, 2:28, archived)
I'm just ticked off that this one requires zero creativity for 90% of the entries.
You watch a movie. You recall it's plot. You clone out the title on the poster and then you add in a three line description of the plot. AND BAM and YOUR FRONT PAGED!!

wouldn't damage to the frontal lobe impair mental flexibility and spontaneity?
/just finished reading articles on the web to confim what I thought I already knew;)
(, Fri 30 May 2008, 2:28, archived)
among other things (which could be useful in dealing with this compo)
/finished reading the poster on my wall.
Mental flexibility, although controlled by the frontal lobe [a very large and general area] is more to do with connections between areas.
(, Fri 30 May 2008, 2:46, archived)
Totally removing your brain and replacing it
with 3lb of illicit substances might just take
the edge off the compo.
(, Fri 30 May 2008, 2:18, archived)
It wouldn't be so bad if people put more effort in and didn't keep doing the same ones.
Not that I can talk.
You can still get a couple of laughs out of it.
(, Fri 30 May 2008, 2:19, archived)
A couple of laughs, yeah thats true but this is an excuse for a week long toap bandwagon.
Btw, haven't seen you before...shop kittens, etc. I liked your Mario money but click your L-plate for a surprise :P
(, Fri 30 May 2008, 2:24, archived)
And the FAQ, I know. I would have taken a week out and memorise it, but Christ it's long. I've been extensively told about the image size limit, anyway. I think I've got the gist.
I'd be happier if the L plate led to a pub though.
