Didn't the X come from the way that St Peter got crucified as he thought himself not worthy to be cricified on the cross the same as Jesus'? Therefore the Xmas would have not be known at that time. I hate myself.

Actually St Peter was just crucified upside down
St Andrew was crucified on a Saltire - X shaped cross rather than a + shaped cross
