Parts of America are racist
but the fact that an african american can become one of their top generals and then secretary of state, and now that someone of that background can run for president shows that we have a long way to go in the UK.

Can you imagine a black person becoming one of our top generals in this country, let alone a high ranking cabinet minister?

discrimination is bad whatever it is, as it always leads to resentment. What the government *should* be doing is trying to create an even playing field, not forcing x number of people from background y into a job.

Agreed, but the weird thing about the US is that they've never had a female president.
Clinton (Mrs) came close, but so many other countries have had female leaders (UK, Germany, India, Argentina, Israel, Indonesia, etc, etc) that it's kind of odd that the US hasn't.
