I don't think its a case of "woman aren't funny"
its more like "men are too busy looking at their tits to laugh at their jokes".
I imagine out of the small percentage of women who are "attractive" enough to go on tv, the percentage of those who are good at comedy is smaller still, so as long as they are judged on their looks they will always be in a minority.
It also has to be said that for every female comedian who isn't funny there plenty of male ones who are just as shit.

I don't look at women's tits.
I still don't find anything funny about Sarah Silverman, and I'm struggling to think of a female comic that I find funny*. That isn't helped by the dearth of lady comedians on TV and such and I can think of a fair few women in real life that can have me in stitches on queue, so I wonder if the assertion shouldn't be "women aren't funny" so much as "women don't make good stand-up comedians".
*Susan Calman is OK, but saying that is playing into Hitchin's cold, dead hands really.
