I'm a bit crap at saying what my music sounds like, but with the m1 100m away youre right it probably is pretty full on. As for phallic mixing, I try to keep the levels off 0db just to give the sound a little more dynamic range thrust and headroom, I can't keep it up for longer than 3.30min these days so it generally comes to a head in the last 8 bars or so.
