This is a link post Quite brilliant take down of gun control in the States by Australian comedian, Jim Jefferies
17 min, but worth every moment.

This is a normal post GC
This GC does not stand for Gun Control, sadly. I'll let it slide though, cos it's ace. Especially the bit getting the gun from the safe.

This is a normal post I've watched that the few other times it has been posted here, and while parts are funny, it really isn't a rebuttal.
The US does not have secure borders and drugs and guns cross almost without impediment any more. Recent reports that over 150,000 people convicted of violent and sexual crimes were released back into the populace because of new immigration policies and the urge to make police more docile lead one to believe that no one can rely on government for protection.

This is a normal post Usually the guns go out of the US, not in.
Otherwise the whole place would be covered in about a foot of guns...
(, Wed 25 Mar 2015, 17:27, , Reply)
This is a normal post Are you saying those criminals should have had life-sentences, then?
Because when criminals have served their sentence, the usual practice is to release them back into the populace. Not sure what it has to do with owning guns.

Also, plenty of guns are made within the US borders, so even stopping all those weapons crossing your borders would do practically nothing to curb the sheer quantity and availability of weapons within them already.

Lastly, I haven't heard anything about that last bit, but I highly doubt the US government has said to the police "Now lads, calm yourselves down a bit and stop arresting so many baddies". That one might need explaining to me.

This is a normal post You are correct...
In fact the US government has been supplying surplus military equipment to police agencies around the country.

This is a normal post Exactly. This has been happening since there is apparently no more war in Iraq.
However, many on the left and the right aren't comfortable with it.

Eg. www.cnn.com/2014/08/14/us/missouri-ferguson-police-tactics/

This is a normal post 16,000 arrest warrants outstanding in Ferguson for a population of 21,000
police hand them out for things like "Manner of Walking in Roadway," "High Grass and Weeds," "14 kinds of parking violation"
It's basically a massive con job, minor fines to take money from people that don't have it.
(, Wed 25 Mar 2015, 15:59, , Reply)
This is a normal post That's really not that out of the ordinary and occurs throughout the United States. One always slows down at the end of the month because cops have to get their quota of tickets.
I mean, what use is there to issuing citations if people aren't going to respect them? It comes out as somewhat incendiary, probably because the DOJ was hurting that the police shooting was justified and that the "hands up, don't shoot" thing never happened.

But, there is an increasing problem with the feds, states and municipalities seizing cash and assets and never giving it back. www.b3ta.com/links/1289026

This is a normal post There are towns that depend on fines for 60% of their budget... But taxes are tea party low!
And if you don't pay, you get sent to jail, for debt.

Debtor jails were outlawed in the US LOOONG ago, this is abnormal.
You lot should be fighting and rating lyrical on this not on if your M16 can have a 20,30 or 100 round mag.

I mean "priorities" for fuck sake.

"First they come to take our guns..." ARE YOU FUCKING INSANE?
At this rate, it's the last thing they'll pick up after sucking the marrow out of your cold dead bones.

You lot have a class problem not seen since the Middle Ages and are still hiding behind tired Cold War rhetoric.

This is a normal post To be honest if I was a cop in a country with that many automatic guns and lethal firearms
I would want to be as militarized as possible
(, Wed 25 Mar 2015, 16:05, , Reply)
This is a normal post There are actually very few automatic weapons in the hands of civilians and are hyper-regulated.
But yes, firearms can be lethal and kill a lot of cops. Few of those were possessed and obtained legally.
(, Wed 25 Mar 2015, 16:12, , Reply)
This is a normal post Can you source the "very few" estimate?
Conservative estimates I've seen suggest there are 1 million+ automatic weapons in the US. Not exactly "very few."
(, Wed 25 Mar 2015, 17:09, , Reply)
This is a normal post According to 2014 figures:
That would put US automatic gun owners 4th in the World ranking of land armies.
Above Russia, below India.
Two countries with active conflicts.
That's insane.

This is a normal post These had not served sentences, but were convicted. They were just not institutionalized.
And yes, guns are made within our borders and are subject to stricter and stricter regulation. There are straw purchasers that buy for small town hoods and home burglaries are another source. Not really having a southern border makes it difficult to prevent all sorts of contraband. Legal gun owners rarely kill one another.

And the union heads have been complaining loudly about the conditions on the border from a law enforcement and officer safety stand point. It is not heavily reported, but they report being told to allow known criminals, gang and cartel members and to not arrest drunk drivers. Here's a start, but likely not reported by MSNBC. Here's one about drunk drivers, and the other internal leaked memos have not been denied by the White House, but are found on sites that lean conservative, so you may not believe that they possess such a document.
