Luckier one probably got a broken tailbone; the other one - definitely severe brain trauma. Most likely will never speak, eat, or move again. His mother will get a call from ICU telling them her son has been in an accident and is in critical condition. She'll drop the basket of folded laundry on the floor, grab her keys and rush out the door. She'll frantically call her husband but there's no answer. He's at the movies with their younger son. After what feels like an eternity she'll finally make it to the hospital where she'll be greeted by two nurses who can barely look her in the eye. She knows it's bad. She's told her son fell while doing a stunt with his friend and broke his spine and suffered severe head trauma. Her stomach feels sick; her knees are shaky and her feet unsteady. After surgery her world will come crashing down and she slowly opens the door to her son's room only to be greeted by beeping machines and the slow, repetitious sounds of a ventilator, slowly pumping oxygen into her son's lungs. Her son lays on the bed, covered in bandages. She can barely recognize him. Metal rods are secured all around her son's head to hold him in place. A tube is going down his throat. "Jacob.." she whimpers as she slowly shuffles toward her son's bed and falls to her knees. More tears cover her face. She takes his hand and puts it against her face. She softly kisses it and bursts into tears. She gently strokes his forehead and squeezes his hand, hoping for her son to respond. He never does. And never will.
