Good for you.
I admire your inventiveness, and quality lurkage. However, I have one of these and thoroughly recommend it:

thanks
yes I've seen those too, some people at work have them, but apparently they don't quite make full-strength espresso?? I was looking at handpresso machines as well, but they're really expensive. Perhaps if I'm good for Christmas.

This is the stealth win. Looks like nothing, but best coffee ever, every time.

Very tempted to try that
I've never liked the way stove-top makers slowly start to percolate before the water boils, but the addition of a pressure valve would effectively turn it into an espresso maker. I avoided the problem on mine by waiting until the water was boiling before screwing the top down, but it was a bit hazardous.

Our home brewed coffee is now better than the posh place around the corner.
So the thing pays for itself quite quickly

Those boil the shit out of coffee so you can say goodbye to the more volatile oils.
But, horses for courses, some people seem to like it.

Sort of.
Try boiling the water first, and then also the amount you put in will affect the pressure that build for extracting. There's a youtube video for a complete breakdown somewhere, which was fairly interesting.

STOP GETTING BIALETTI BRIKKA WRONG!
They only look like all the other shit ones.
The Brikkas do fuck up if you pack the coffee in tight. It's not supposed to be packed in at all, just break up the lumps. Then, when the valve pops, the coffee gets delivered in about 2 seconds. Nothing boiling, loads of crema, plenty of flavour. Luvlee.

I've got an aeropress but never use it
I prefer either my stove top espresso or cafetière, both are just as easy to use. I found the aeropress coffee to be smooth to the point of blandness. I buy ground coffee, I prefer a strong dark but not sour roast. Maybe there's a different blend that'd work better in the aeropress.

I bought the wife an aeropress
It's not really an expresso maker but it's a good way to make filter coffee. Can be packed for travel too.
Easiest way to make expresso these days is to buy a Nespresso compatible machine. If the licensed machines cost too much, ALDI / LIDL sell compatible / knockoff machines and capsules so it doesn't have to be too expensive.

The Rocket Espresso machines are the best for the money, though give me a 1 group linea mini any day. In fact, just give me a bigger house so I can have the two group instead..
