Aside from fur colour and length most cats are the same but dogs vary a lot in size and shape.

I would say that cats display larger variations on size than dogs (e.g. lions etc.).

Whilst both are of the family Felidae they cannot interbreed so are a different species.

This variety is at the family level not within the same species
