I work with autistic kids and have learned a little Signalong which is quite similar to standard deaf signing. Interesting stuff. I sometimes think everyone should learn it at school, not just to communicate with the deaf, but because it would be a useful tool for everyone to communicate regardless of their native language.

there is a bit of a debate going at he moment that BSL should be offered along with the foreign languages that are offered at school. I don't understand why it isn't. Most people I meet say they would love to learn it!

Plus, visually, (the basics) at least make sense so it might be easier to pick up than French or German. It would be great to be able to go to not just France, but the majority of the rest of the world, and be able to at least get by in basic conversation with near enough everyone else...

...Which is probably a cross between both.
I think it's largely the same as BSL but perhaps some signs are more literal? I couldn't tell you really but our school chose it over Makatan for a specific reason anyway.
