it rusted to bits on the drive, shame.

as someone that has battled rust and time on multiple cars, sometimes it is a fight that can't be won.

I did get the chance to ride in it before that, though, fortunately.

very cool that you did get to ride in it. car memories are some of the best i have of growing up.

Happy days. It's a shame old Alfie had to go.
I bought myself a Reliant Scimitar (don't laugh) after that and called him Papillon but sadly I could never get 'im fixed.

i possibly enjoy tearing up a bit of pavement a bit too much. Oooh a scimitar? what year? i will only laugh at the names... but i am not one to talk... Orwell is the bane of my existence at the moment... 1984 jeep cj7.

K-reg as I recall. Awful shade of green, it was, with only one exhaust since I could only find one going on ebay.

Although for that amount of effort he might as well have put a GT6 engine in it. Pleasure to watch still

The carb linkages that wouldn't stay fixed!
The sump bolts with the stripped holes!
The rocker cover that wouldn't seal!
The big-end bearings that wouldn't come out!
The valve seals that didn't!
The tappets!
The tappets!
Oh God, No! The tappets! That incessant noise!
(if anyone needs me I'll be curled up in the corner wishing I'd never agreed to fix that damned car and trying not to think about bullet connectors... bugger)

Jag runs like a dream! Seriously tho, I get a little warm glow of manly achievement if I manage to top up the coolant without wrecking the engine

Would you mind annotating your video - to help me learn the parts of an engine?... it would make for a very educational result! Or you can completely ignore this request. Either way :)
(, Sat 30 Jun 2012, 12:08, Reply)
Hardly anything in an engine that age is relevant any more. Pistons still go up and down and the crank goes round and round, but that's about it.
It wouldn't really help you that much

I always enjoyed being able to fix my own car, but it's a small price to pay for the increased reliability and efficiency of modern engines.
