This is a link post Animatronics VFX Showreel by Gustav Hoegen.
He's the guy who did stuff for that film where everyone dies in the end, amongst others.

Seriously impressive stuff.

This is a normal post That's a whole week's worth of nightmares right there!
Amazing though, so much there I had assumed was CG.

This is a normal post The making of Prometheus is brilliant.
Whatever you think of the film...there was some true artistry behind it.

So much that I had assumed was CG was in fact practical effects.

That's incredible. I genuinely thought that was all CG. Amazing work by that man. Will research him more, cheers.

This is a normal post it's amazing
that we are now congratulating people for making real things that look like computer graphics, rather than the other way round.

This is a normal post I've been working in computer graphics for 14 years.
That's the first time I've seen physical stuff that competes with what computers can do (or obviously will do soon). And physical is obviously better if it can be done at a competitive price.

Awesome.

This is a normal post Very nice reel.
But the anti-CG comments piss me off. Especially since I've worked on a couple of the films shown there where we've replaced the animatronics with CG because the animatronics didnt' hold up. No one technique is better. The skill (for the director) is choosing where to use what.

This is a normal post For me, CGI, blue screen, and actors in suits, seem to be cheaper and easier
