My money's on Stanta Claus being a phonetic derivative of the german St. Nikolaus (the patron saint of children) The whole modern day christmas story started in England with Prince Albert when he married Queen Victoria and she adopted the German tradition.
Or then again it may be something to do with Coca Cola.
