I actually find landing "Mustang-Style" easier than a long final... dunno why.

This is a normal post I think you're relying more on experience and instinct.
As a passenger, i think I prefer the long final version though. Did one of these mustangs as a passenger in a small 6-seater in Jamaica. It was memorable, I'll say that.

heat haze... variable surfaces (concrete, grass, houses) for thermals, turbulence from fold in the land and trees (not to mention cable everywhere)... rate 2 turn at less than 100' agl, risk of sudden power asymmetry, carrying too much speed in a tail dragger to brake hard on a short runway...

Skills yes.
50th birthday? Maybe...

Only time I fly like that is in a sim. He's just begging to get a gust-induced stall/spin.

Would also be interested to see just how much runway he used, or whether he had to go around due to lack of distance available.
