This is a normal post You couldn't really worry about a more extreme Islamic regime than the House of Saud could you?
I mean that society is about as mental as you could wish upon anyone, except their government is more or less onside given they know who's buying their oil making them so incredibly wealthy. If anything when Saudi society finally pops, it will be a liberal uprising, not a more conservative one. It's simply impossible to be more conservative than how their society already is.

but who would support such an uprising? There were a few protests a while back, the authorities threw them some tiny morsels of reform and everyone just shrugged and carried on as normal.

Most people are like that, really, they just want to get on with their lives, thinking the bad shit won't happen to them.
