I once lived in forrinland for a bit
And would regularly buy raw sugarcane from street vendors as a delicious snack. Well, I say raw - it was prepared, in that it was cut into manageable lengths and the bark stripped off, so you sort of bite some off like it's a massive carrot, chew it to get the sweet, sweet juices, then spit out the indigestible pulp. Yum.
