Doesn't really apply to modern America. It's not like one state is going to rise up against the other anymore.. Everyone seems to forget the very important first half of that particular amendment.
I understand the need for guns for hunting, farming and even home defence. But, for home defence, I don't see why someone would need more than a handgun, let alone several semi-automatic rifles with boxes of ammunition, flak jackets, pistols, pepper sprays etc.

Quite true, but there's no need.
It's worked well in the uk. Knife crime is high but you can't really go on a knife rampage through a school.
Another thing is to lower clip sizes. 6-8 bullets, again making it harder to go tearing through the general public.
