but I agree to some extent, without a proper system of peer review and publication (which things like the JSTOR service help pay to provide) every nut job conspiracy theorist will post up a 'paper' which 'proves' whatever fad it is they're harping on about.
That being said I understand the prices being charged and the monopolies being built up in the publishing of scientific articles is a bit of a problem currently.
