Darwinian evolution isn't about increasing the reproductive chances of individuals
It is about 'selfish genes'.
And so an argument for gay people in evolutionary terms would be that they evolved to protect closely related children, meaning the kids got more protection and care and had more chance to pass on some genes the gay person had.
Otherwise, we would never have gay people being born today.

although in many ancient societies it never stopped them breeding anyway,
people got married to produce an heir, and for inter-dynastic politics, not for romance.
