This is a link post The KGB, the Computer, and Me
Ages ago someone posted a TED talk by Clifford Stoll (the chap with the Klein bottles). I've just remembered this documentary about how he helped catch the KGB fellows who hacked the university where he was an Astronomer.

Every few years or so I re-read "the cuckoos egg" which is his account of this incident (and contains a rather good recipe for chocolate chip cookies)

There is a german film I can't remember the name of which is based on the events at the other end of the wire. It's worth a look as well. I think it was called something like "26"

I'll see if I can dredge it out of the imdb somehow
