This is a link post Chris Harris drives the DeltaWing
I've held off posting this for a bit, but with the Nascar stuff below I figured "fuck it".

I love this car and all it represents. Getting a glimpse under the bodywork to see how they were able to package it all together just makes my inner car geek all warm and fuzzy.

This is a normal post That crowd cheering those truck drivers crashing...
...are as bad as the Thai people cheering when they see two 8 year old girls kicking the shit out of each other. Or something.

This is a normal post That reminds me
I haven't seen that yet. Who should I be cheering on?

This is a normal post Just think of it as being like a beauty pageant or a christening, or something.
Also, when you compare it to what Pol Pot did, it's nothing really.

This is a normal post If it's an 8 year old Muay Thai boxing girl against a racing truck, I'd expect the truck to win

This is a normal post bit of a shame
That none of this will translate to F1 or the car industry, rules, rules, rules.

This is a normal post Indeed.
DRS is a bit of a cop out solution to turbulent air.
There's nothing stopping the FIA adopting this style of design for the F1 regs, but I severely doubt it would be anywhere near as fast in a straight line or around corners as current cars and especially those of the early 2000's, even with a hulking great engine in it.
Doesn't really look like it leaves much room for innovation or development either. But that's probably why I'm not an F1 engineer.

This is a normal post It was faster down the back straight than every other car
Whilst using half the horsepower. It was also on course to beat all the lmp2 cars at Le Man's before getting rammed into a wall at Le Mans. As a first attempt I'd say that was pretty good, and given development time there's no reason I can see that it couldn't compete in the top categories. It was initially proposed as the next generation indycar after all.

This is a normal post I'd imagine there would be some issues with racing as the front is a lot narrower than the back
so judging a close overtake could to tough

This is a normal post Never!
Actually I think it was the 911 trying to kill it's driver as usual, I think he had a tyre on the curbing then it snapped back.

That Delta Wing seemed keen to be upside down though once flipped. Shame this thing didn't run in the WEC, would have been good to see it at Silverstone.

This is a normal post Not bad at all
Best advice I can give though is to really push it. You're at 1/125 there, mine was at 1/30. At that speed I'm throwing away 9/10 shots as just too blurry, but its worth it for the ones that do come good.

Tell you what though, the next one in your stream - the sunset one - is fucking awesome.

This is a normal post Haven't been to Donnington yet.
It's just a matter of good footing, smooth action and follow-through. Mainly though it's practice.

This is a stunning shot by the way:

[edit] What ^he said. Do everything you can to slow that shutter down, you're looking to drag the background through the frame (an added bonus is that the wheels don't look 'frozen' either). 1/30 to 1/60s is reckoned to be the limit for clean hand-held images but that's entirely dependent on the person shooting. Push your luck - I went to Brands Hatch for the truck racing two weeks ago and took approx 500 shots. I got maybe 15 keepers but they're ones I *really* liked.

This is a normal post Thanks both
Those sunset shots are easy! Haha, I call them cheat shots, but once I had found the spot to take advantage of the setting sun, a couple of Pro snappers copied me.

I need more practice, a lens that was built in the digital era, and maybe actually use my monopod.

Donington is very chaddy, makes Brands look nice, but it's a great track and in a few places you can get really near the cars.

This is a normal post I hate Donnington
except for that first corner after the start/finish straight. I got one of my favourite ever shots there.

I'm just lucky that Brands is about a 15 minute drive from me. If I'm ever bored at the weekend its a no-brainer.

This is a normal post I don't know how they ever thought Donington was going to get a GP
And you can't walk all the way round. But I like the actual track, the Craner curves are amazing with the high down-force cars.

I drive past Brands every day on the way to work. Most handy.

That is a killer shot of a killer car. Really great.
