Either this is a spoof, or the Guardian has fucked up enormously.
But the stream of vitriol already being aimed at 19-year-old backpacker-blogger (and very possibly son of a Guardian travel writer, it transpires), 'Max', is promising to make this one of the funniest blogs on the Internet.
He hasn't even set off yet, and people are falling over themselves to destroy him.
I for one will be dropping in to top up my schedenfreude levels every 20 seconds if the outrage continues to propogate at the current rate. Let's just hope the Guardian have painted themselves into a corner and can't surreptitiously take it down...
edit: *glees* 430+ comments! hahah, there were like 30 when I first posted it. :P

One of the comments sums it up for me:
posh 19 year old goes to Thailand to find himself amongst all the other 'gappers', and we can follow his every move? wow.
Though I do find it amusing people are actually bothered enough to make a comment

Someone's called him a 'shit fister', which I like.
Alas, I'd imagine it's a candidate for speedy deletion.

Comment is Free,
just Guardian's umbrella term for their collective blogs.

The second post summed it up for me
I'll give it a miss, yeah? I've already got Nathan Barley on DVD.
Totally coincimental.
Brilliant. And I would love to see what Charlie Brooker himself would have to say about this waste of ejaculation.

those comments are brilliant. it's a good job Max is leaving the country or he'd have a lot of crap thrown at him.

The comment late on about him
becoming a sex-tourist on a Guardian expense account was very funny.
I kind of felt sorry for him, then I went back and read his blog post and didn't anymore.
It's Mike Read all over again!

what is this Mike Reid thing?
clearly I'm ignorant on this, but I saw the reference in the comments on the link too. I'm curious, and would like to learn. Please tell!

Mike Read
the insufferable arsehole, was given a blog last year. In his first (and last) post the smarmy shitemonger outlined why he was deciding not to stand for Mayor of London, and instead was backing Boris Johnson.
Cue a torrent of comments

Priceless

met another guardian writer in beijing
he was preaching about how everyone should be like him and travel slowly with low carbon emissions forgetting most people arent being paid to do it by the guardian
he was a wanker
www.lowcarbontravel.com/
oh and also a friend of a friend is going out with peaches geldof and supposedly the guardian gave her 2 return tickets to new york for writing about her minge or something - very environmental

To be fair here your argument is a bit bollocks.
It's often cheaper to travel by land rather than air when you are outside of Europe. Reducing our carbon emissions is a very important thing and is everybody's responsibility, including yours.
Also one writer doesn't represent the whole newspaper. Maybe he disagreed with their policy, you don't say. He most likely does but you didn't bother asking.

He seems like a dick,
but I was probably an even bigger dick at that age.
I actually feel a bit sorry for him, the amount of shit he's getting.
But I'm sure he can console himself with his nice job and free holiday.
