Well, that'll be me gone for a few days.
EDIT: FUCKING SKYRIM is being ported to work on this.

And they're using it for games rather then porn?
They'll be bankrupt within the year.

We've ordered an SDK and development prototype to have a play with.
By all accounts, this is one of the single most exciting developments in gaming since Doom.
Unobstructed vision, full 3D and almost zero latency head-tracking.
The thought of this thing working with a flight sim like IL-2 is quite frankly, mind boggling.

But wouldn't it be much cheaper/easier to get a pair of these dx.com/p/rechargeable-72-virtual-screen-video-player-glasses-w-tf-av-in-2-5mm-jacks-black-4gb-146291
And hook them up with that xbox motion tracking thingy?

So please excuse me for being a bit sceptic about this, but I still remember these:

Massive succes they were ...
Mind you, I'm also the bloke who said in the eighties that those modern CD thingies would never catch on because of the flat sound compared to vinyl.

As I think that motion sickness is what will likely prevent it taking off and the more latency the worse that will be.

although I can imagine an immersive port of the Ravenholm level would leave me traumatised

Nearly bought one of the dev kits but real life got in the way.
Will the final version need a pc or will it be a standalone machine?
I've a pretty snappy PC so would want to use that power.
(, Tue 5 Feb 2013, 8:40, Reply)
Final version is a peripheral, it'll plug into a PC. It'll be a few hundred bucks, so it'll never make it to the console crowd, thank god.
However, for 3D, x2 screens have to be rendered simultaneously so it'll need a pretty powerful card.
The eventual consumer model will be very sexy, in built sound, better screen etc..
Unity, Epic, Valve and ID are all committed, and the early release of the SDK means people are playing around with porting other titles over.
You can pretty well guarantee that the ARMA guys will use it. They've supported head-tracking for a while.
DayZ with this thing? Bring it on.

Looks like it takes up a monitor port.
Hope a GTX580 will be up to the job.
(, Tue 5 Feb 2013, 12:10, Reply)
A GTX580 should be ok to get 3d.
I used one to run Nvidia 3D vision, and it handled that.
