I watched the fuck out of this yesterday.
I heartily recommend that you do the same.
GC from June, but reckon it's worth reminding people.

found the end to be a little disappointing
but fantastic performances and script work

Difficult to discuss without spoiling it
but I will say that it felt like the right way to end it to me.

I thought Vader making a joke completely ruined it. He's evil, no sense of humour.

Were you hoping for an extravagent, star-studded musical number to finish it?
Mind, I've yet to watch, as went out to see it saturday night & Dulwich, Peckham & Clapham had all sold out, as we discovered :/

Everywhere else in town was sold out.

Might be that people from Dulwich, Peckham and Clapham
fancy seeing some swearing and violence...?

Darkest Hour and The Post look vaguely interesting
Will probably have to catch them on telly though as I can't persuade my better half that she wants to see either.

I thought The Post was guaranteed to be great with Spielberg, Hanks and Streep.
It was extremely disappointing. Dull and unengaging. People walked out of the screening I was at.

That was what I feared
The last Spielberg film I watched was Bridge of Spies, which felt strangely flat. As if there was the makings of a good story hidden somewhere in the script, but one that the director didn't quite know how to tell. His attempting to make something that will naturally invite comparison to Spotlight was an interesting move.
I have a bit of a problem with Tom Hanks too. The last film of his that I saw where he wasn't playing "Tom Hanks starring as ..." was probably Apollo 13.
That said, I could happily spend two hours watching Streep reading from the RS Catalogue, so will probably try to catch it at some point.

I don't lthink the Spotlight comparison works for several reasons. Who's making that comparison?

If this were the ending of a series people would be burning their Netflix

Agreed
But it annoys me that she Supermanned her way back onto the ship. And we're weaponising hyperspace now are we?

Went to see it last week...
A good film, but I don't think it's one that I'll return to again. It felt a bit like a not-so-great Coen brothers film (lead actor not withstanding).

Regardless of the film,
It's one of the best crafted trailers I've seen since Magnolia.

The whole thing was ridiculous, and a bit boring.

Maybe you're right
In my head, he just gave her a dressing down on her stoop. I found it hard to care much about her after that. The coughing scene is beautifully done though.

I think it was because the dentist didn't want to press charges, because he was the one who started it by trying to remove a tooth unnecessarily... using a drill... and no anaesthetic.
The ending was OK, but a bit unsatisfying.
My favourite part was actually Sam Rockwell. He had a lot more to do than I expected from the trailer. Speaking of the trailer, don't go into this expecting the same level of comedy as The Guard. It has some very good moments but it's altogether a more serious film than The Guard.

Both exceptional writer/directors with Irish roots
McDonagh did the exceptional Calgary after The Guard, while McDonagh did Seven Psycopaths after In Bruges.
Hope that helps ;)

there's talk of a third film
In 2014 McDonagh said his follow-up to Calvary would be The Lame Shall Enter First, his third feature with Brendan Gleeson. The film follows a paraplegic ex-policeman in London who has developed a hatred for able-bodied people and who gets caught up in a new investigation after one of his friends is murdered. He has stated that it will be the "final one in the trilogy" and will be "an amalgamation of The Guard and Calvary"
