This is a link post Interesting article on BBC website turns in to cyclist are cunts debate in the comments section.
Article also contains the amusing line "Hugh Huddy is blind and works for visual impairment charities' umbrella group Vision 2020. He says he is always pleased to see a cone..."

This is a normal post Re: blind people seeing things
My blind mates always refer to having recently "seen" someone/something (e.g. a TV programme), just because saying something like having "heard" them is (a) confusing to the listener - were you near something, or did you just hear it on the radio/through a wall? (b) drawing unnecessary attention to their disability and (c) "blind" doesn't always mean all you see is complete darkness - there's a huge spectrum that starts at partially-sighted

TL:DR - yes, blind people see things

Anybody who honestly believes most cyclists don't think they are a law unto themselves when it comes to the rules of the road needs their head examined. I see it all day and everyday out and about; lights being jumped, not giving way at zebra crossings etc. It is also not a small minority.

This is a normal post Very much the same here.
Although it does seem to be age related. Most mature cyclists do stick to the rules, the younger generation doesn't seem to care about the safety of themselves and others.

This is a normal post That's bollocks
I'm a regular cycle and car commuter. I see far more drivers going through red lights, mounting the kerb, ignoring signs and, the big one, going far too fast in urban streets.

Some cyclists do dangerous things too, but they're a minor problem compared to the fuckwits behind the wheel.

This is a normal post I object
As a cyclist I like to indulge in loads of dangerous things. Sometimes I don't microwave things properly or wait for the kettle to boil all the way. Other times, I stand near smokers at the bus stop. I've also been known to leave it way too long before going to the dentist.

I find bike rides quite safe though, possibly as a consequence of holding a large adjustable wrench in one hand whilst cycling.

and I also made no mention of cars, what have they got to do with a lot of cyclists riding around like cunts?

This is a normal post Fair point.
No-one should be acting dangerously on the roads.

I shout at cyclists who jump red lights. But the whole "red light" issue is a general one, they really are regarded as "advisory" around here. And the worst offenders are pedestrians, when I'm on my bike in town I have to shout at just about every pedestrian crossing, as the lardy arses lumber across regardless.

This is a normal post There's not a day
goes by that i dont see a cyclist go through a redlight in York. I'm struggling to think of the last time i saw a car do the same.

This is a normal post Some are indeed cunts
Late last night I was about to cross the road on a steep hill and just noticed at the last moment that a cyclist was barreling down the hill at speed in the dark with no lights, so I shouted "buy some lights " he shouted back. "stop wearing black ": What a dumb fucking cunt, hope he dies! Nothing serious though.

Really, after living in NZ, where almost all cyclists round town have lights and most wear hi vis, London cyclists contain a large percentage of ignorant stupid ... people.

a helmet and glow in the dark tabbard that makes people drive better, and i promise you - i will buy two.

a lot of people who drive, really fucking shouldn't.

This is a normal post Well yes
I assume this is you leaping to the guys defense? Presumably the existence somewhere of a bad driver (they do exist, yes) means that being a knuckle dragging cunt on a bike is just fine? So the circle continues and we can all be cunts cos someone else was a cunt first.

Two wheel logic

This is a normal post not at all
but you keep begging the question there, sparkles.

my point is, hi viz and fucking helmets are a dangerous distraction in the road safety debate because:

a) they presume the victims are at fault in the event of a collision (statistics suggest otherwise)

b) that road safety is the responsibility of the most vulnerable road user, when in fact it is overwhelmingly that of the ones piloting a ton of speeding fucking metal, glass and plastic down the public highways.

This is a normal post Hi-Viz and Helmets are a dangerous detraction?
Really? How so?
(, Thu 30 May 2013, 14:58, , Reply)
This is a normal post Jesus, you're actually serious
You won't wear stuff because road safety is not your responsibility?

See and be seen, simples.

You're on the road, act like a road user.

Safety is everyone's responsibility

Having two wheels does nor absolve you from being a responsible road user,

I can't believe your attitude, do other cyclists think like you? I feel like I'm talking to a Jehovah's Witness or something, it's that stunning logic disconnect that boggles my brain

Edit: let's just agree to disagree.

This is a normal post ^^ THIS
Yes ( referring to hotpiss' comment)

Cycle safety gear is a distraction in the overall road safety debate, although as a cyclist you're still well advised to wear it. But the point that the real problem and responsibility lies with the drivers of big, heavy and fast motor vehicles is true. Most cycling accidents are the fault of the driver.

This is a normal post All cunts are cunts!
Seriously though, theres no section of transport including pedestrians that are blameless.
However as a car driver if I fuck up my insurance goes up.
You bike riders and pedestrians fuck up you get to donate some organs.

point being, don't fuck up and expect those around you to fuck up so you can react in time.

This is a normal post indeed
We all make mistakes when using the roads and, generally, we all adapt our actions to cover for each others mistakes. It is when we fail to do this, that accidents occur. This also happens when we think we are above reproach. A little more humility, contrition and general good thinking would make our roads a whole bunch nicer for everyone.

And on that note, I'm going to go and swear at the stupid bastards who cant use the correct lane on the three/four/five lane roundabouts we have round here, whilst fighting my way into town.

This is a normal post Umm, this is a weirdly uk thing tbh.
Go to mainland Europe and those countries that have invested properly in bike lanes etc and you suddenly find everyone cycles short distances. That includes BMW/Audi drivers. Lo and behold, people drive respectfully.
