This guy never fails to amaze me, and this board has been missing some decent guitar shredding of late.
He also has a bastard 8-string version of my Hellraiser in the background. I bought it so I couldn't blame my instrument for not being able to play like Jeff; now I can only blame myself :o(

but I also HATE "MAD GUITAR SKILLZ/SHREDDING" (technique over creativity)

I guess it boils down to personal taste. I love metal but dismiss a lot og guitar shredding as wankery also.

I would put a link to the only "guitar solo" I like, but who actually clicks stuff like that....eh?
Gawd, I'm in a grump- monday morning after a sunday spent ENTIRELY recovering from the saturday night.

But I prefer a little more melody in my music.
Here's Marty Friedman with a preposterously outrageous bit of melodic shredding, more soothing to my thirtysomething ears:

Although I'll admit that when I listened to this in my earlier years, I would imagine this music as my coronation theme for when I assumed the intergalactic throne in a massive black and gold coloured space castle.
