They've been coming for years
At least the past six years, after Putin started giving them some cash. Oh, here it is, August 2007;
"We have decided to restore flights by Russian strategic aviation on a permanent basis,"

No, this is not WW3
They come over about once every two weeks. And of course there is probably a submarine more-or-less permanently parked either in the North Sea or in the North Atlantic.

Thank fuck for that.
As impressive as the performance was, it was matched by an endurance that was measured in minutes rather than hours.

annex a country? check
create political instability ? check
threaten military action if 'x' citezens are harrased arrested or murderdeathkilled to death ? check
blame every one for escalating the tension? check

Yup
Sentimental may have a point though, EU is broke and hand-wringy, and Merka is a tad war-weary. There may be no more World Wars beacause the liberal(ish) democracies aren't up for it / can't afford it. Looks like we'll be a push-over for Putler, esp if he could get the Chinese on board.

What makes you think there already isn't? *Adjusts tinfoil hat*
Since 1945 there was only ONE SINGLE year that the Yanks weren't bombing the fuck out of SOME poor bastards. Add in all the minor and / or civil wars that most states that used to have empires have found economic, social, or corporate reasons for supporting either 'Our friends in government there taking a firm stance against terrorism' or 'Our friends the heroic rebels standing bravely against the forces of oppression' (and sometimes both at the same time) The world is NOT a particularly peaceful place.
Not that I'm complaining mind. *Lovingly strokes shares portfolio of armaments companies*
So yeah, Third World War = NOW, because it's mostly being fought IN The Third World.

Or for a slightly less jingoistic take on it
Try this one.
Nothing alarming about it. They've been doing it for years and they never entered British airspace.

Hate to stand up for the growbags here, but they actually do this once or twice a month on average.
And the sailors do it once or twice a year with Ivan's ships.
It's routine and has been since the start of the Cold War. In fact the only time that the Ruskies DIDN'T do it on a regular basis was right after the break up of the USSR when they were too skint to afford fuel.
