The Battery That's Lasted 176 Years
The Oxford Electric Bell, which has rung (almost) continuously for 176 years. No-one is brave enough to dismantle the battery to identify exactly how it was made. It is estimated that the bells will wear out before the battery runs down.

I couldn't listen to a word she said because I kept wondering what exactly the plan was with her hair dye.

Not surprised it is still going
probably a few thousand volts and very, very, very low current load.
Simple low voltage primary cells stacked into a massive pair of batteries.
I agree that mechanical failure will probably kill it before the batteries go flat.
Really puts a lot of modern battery powered devices to shame though.
Charging a watch every day? Really?

How about the light bulb that has been on for 115 years?
I have seen it with my own eyes (not for all 115 years, but...)
