The WETA Effect, or, Why Special Effects Peaked in the 90's.
Pretty interesting.
I find it amusing that the video design is so fucking stupid though.

Fuck that
God bless porn. Because there's fuck all else new to look at: no architecture, no art, no sculpture. Porn is the only creative art that's on a consistently upward trajectory. And possibly TV drama.

I would normally agree
but after watching anal adventures 14 I was mortified at how far the threw off the original plot. Quite frankly it has destroyed the franchise for me.

I found "one up the chutney button" rather refreshing and "even more chutney button " was an amazing plot and cinamatogphraphic wonder
but like all anal the ending was shit

what a load of old shit. Weta's done some awful stuff compared to todays work.
King Kong looked as unreal as all the stuff he's complaining about and their early CG stuntmen are shocking.
Using a relatively cheap (low fx budget) Hulk movie and Avatar as examples of things not looking realistic is hardly damning evidence.

That's not the point, I think
Rather, Kong and Avatar marked the point where CGI took over and whole scenes would be rendered in block busters. Before, as in the earlier Hulk, less realistic CGI placed in more realistic filmed sequences actually made more believable films. I tend to argee with this.
Not to the point of making a YouTube video about it though, so meh.

oh yeah, my mistake, thought he was wanking over Peter Jackson.
there are believable all cg sequences out there though, just can't remember or find any good examples to back that up :D

Yeah I believe there is.
I can kind of see the point though. It's the ones that shiny it up too much. The real world is fucking shit and boring so to make it realistic, generally that's what your backdrop has to be.

Also the weighting is a problem
CGI action still gets the weighting wrong so much, so people and objects are being thrown through the air, but they fly like toys. Nothing ever feels real if the weight's wrong.

At 2:30...
That "entire scene behind" the Hulk is not "glossy computer effect", but Knox College at the University of Toronto:

torontoist.com/2008/11/reel_toronto_the_incredible_hulk/
Decent idea in the video, but that scene was a bad choice as an example of a completely CGI background.
