Well, you're half right at least.
Though on second thoughts, I prefer the bassline to Wake Up And Make Love With Me myself.

that was good
but I'd rather see Alan Partridge playing air bass to it.
Also, I'm now proposing 'playing air bass' as the best euphemism for flatulence.

On some Captain Beefheart albums, Bruce Fowler is credited as playing 'air bass'
I'll never be able to listen to them the same way again.

Speaking as a bassist
This isn't quite as elaborate as it seems, each note you play has a 'ladder' to it, and once you're au fait with your scales, the ladder becomes apparent. All the lad does is walk up and down those ladders.
That said, I play a Fender Jazz Bass too, so respect for that. So - so much better than that terrible Precision Bass. The pickups on the P-Bass are designed to take chunks from your fingers, and sound like a goose farting in the fog.

I play a single coil JB and Musicman Humbucker setup. Just like this one, but using Seymour Duncan BassLines pickups. Gives you a wide range of possibilities, unlike the dreaded PB, as you mentioned.

Single coil is good. Humbuckers have little place on a bass guitar, a bass needs a bit of top end to make it noticeable, not more bottom end. You end up sounding like a bad tuba with humbuckers. I've often considered a Musicman, but honestly, I would only really take a couple of options it gives, so I'll stick to the J-Bass, ta! (The exact same reasoning prevents me from getting a Jag Bass, no matter how sexy they look!)

I installed a coil splitter for the Hum recently.
With this, I can switch between a more MM-like sound and the JB. Also, I'm playing light strings, so I do get good tops with this setup. The bridge is quite important, too (I'm using a Babicz Full Contact).
My luthier used well aged ash wood for the body, since I was looking for more "twang", I don't like this muddy bottom end sound either. All in all, it's a pretty nice setup, I'm really happy with it.

Your username is quite appropriate then
To be fair, and not sarky, your setup sounds good for what you want to do. As a matter of fact, I've gaffer-taped-up all the dials on my J-Bass to full volume, full neck pickup. I use a fuckton of pedals to alter the sound, so the native 'sound' of a bass isn't much use to me, beyond the actual 'this is a kick-ass bass sound'..

Yeah, we put a lot of thought into this project, it surely wasn't just some random guitar.
Since my Bass-God is John Entwistle, I wanted to go for a lot of treble, while still keeping the option to go down, when needed. Worked out just fine.
The JB is definitely my favourite Fender model, my bass is pretty much a '75 JB with the above mentioned hardware. Looks good, sounds good, lots of fun playing it. ;)
What's your JB model?

It's a shitty Squier JB, very beat up. Had it for nearly a decade now. Sounds like hellfire though!
