to realize kittens playing on the lawn. I think restricting swinging combative arms might be unpleasant for both the participant and the person trying to help. Well, no bruises this time, apparently.

I don't think that would work
they seem to be incapable of just closing their eyes to it, let alone pressing a button.
Maybe a safe-word, such as "Yeeeeeeeek! Arrrrgh! Eeeeeek!"
