This is a normal post Hahahaha. I like the reply from "Goerge", who can't even seem to spell his own name.
"You are part of the reason why there are so many sexual predators. You are VERY sick in the head and should be placed with Jerry Sandusky. The minimum age for Yahoo Answers is 13. Many people would think the Cooking section is free and clear of sick and twisted and very gross questions but unfortunately there are sick people such as you that make simple surfing in this section a problem. Your sickness reflects your parents as well. They should be so proud they raised such a sick and very twisted individual. You however disregard the Yahoo Answers terms of service. You also lack any respect. It is my wish that you learn some respect but that hope is most likely wasted. You are in violation of the terms of service so your question will disappear. Add in the fact that you are most likely enjoying the series of facts which make you a disgusting person means you are probably headed for prison where you will get all the cheese you want and cheese you don't want but they will happily give it to you even while you are screaming. No I am not wrong. Your words are sick. You are sick and ummm when NOT IF WHEN you get to prison you are welcome to ask about the cheese again. You are too immature to understand the fact that you are on your way to prison. You say ummm I am just making a joke. Why you overreacting? Your disregard of the younger people on here show that you will go to prison one day because of your lack of respect for society at large. Your immaturity is unfortunately blinding you to that FACT. Fact Daniel. Not an opinion."

This is a normal post How many are for driving offenses or ones that did not result in a custodial sentance?
If the state has spent 10s of thousands on training someone up, they've then worked for years gaining experience it'ld be a shame to just toss them on the scrap heap for a minor offence.
(, Thu 1 Nov 2012, 12:08, , Reply)
This is a normal post To get a driving conviction
You must either be drink driving, being unbelievably reckless, speeding way beyond 100mph or causing huge accidents. Its nearly impossible to get a custodial conviction for driving if you don't hit anyone, as that footballer who was doing 130mph (Andre Santos) showed.

Penalty points don't count as convictions.

So on that basis, if a Polis has a driving conviction (eg. a drunk-driving ban), then it shows a massive lack of understanding and respect for the laws they are meant to uphold and so I think they should obviously be barred.

A bunch of incredibly talented film & TV students at York University (including my flatmate) are looking for funding for their 3rd year project. It's a short film called 'The Painter and the Thief', entirely written, directed, edited, produced etc by students. They've managed to raise £5000 of their own money so far, but being lowly students, they need the help of the public in order to make a properly slick production.

This is a normal post What bollocks!
Hiring a RED camera won't make this student film any less shit than all the others.
If they're students, they already have access to free camera equipment and should be using it.

I'm with the others. If you don't have the budget for a certain type of shot and you can't pull in any favours (which is what you should be doing everywhere) then find an alternative.

Fucking entitled kids today!
(, Thu 1 Nov 2012, 11:04, , Reply)
This is a normal post There's nothing 'entitled' about asking people for help
Demanding it, maybe. Also the RED camera is owned by the University, they need the budget for hiring professional actors and providing transport to remote locations. Having seen the difference between the films made using only student actors, and those made with a budget for pro actors, you can see why these guys want to get in the professionals, as it it dramatically increases the overall quality of the film, making it more likely they'll get into film competitions and hopefully get jobs in the industry at the end of it all.

This is a normal post I think people saying 'stay in your own budget' is a helpful comment
We're a bitter bunch here when it comes to people asking for money.

My problem with this pitch is that he's asking for £5k with no breakdown of WHY he wants that money.

Considering you're not paying for camera ops, editors, runners, lighting, sound, director, or ANY of that (because you're handling that yourself, right? As film students) where is this £5k going?

OK, so you want to hire good actors. You should only be hiring your 2 main leads. There are plenty of resources for getting free* (minus travel expenses) actors for any background cast or extras.
How many days shooting do you need to pay for these actors?

£5k is a lot of money for a student film and bollocks should any of that money go towards paying for the time of the students involved.

But, I'm pretty shocked by the reaction this is getting from b3tans, some of whom I'm sure have had a leg up in the past, financially or otherwise. I think the fact that they've stumped up £5000 of their own cash shows a ridiculous amount of ambition and hard work which you've got to admire them for. And what's wrong with making a kickstarter page to see if they can double their budget? I'm sure if they don't reach their target they'll be able to work within whatever budget they have, and it'll be great, but why not try and make something they can take to film comps, show to potential employers etc that looks like a proper piece of professional work?

I've helped out with a few of their projects before and they're some of the most hardworking people I've met (filming for 22 hours a day for three days straight because that's the longest the uni will let you have the equipment for, for example). They're not asking for the money so they can spaff out some shite in HD and expect a 1st, they just want to make something that'll stand out and look more like a professional movie than a student film.

This is a normal post I think you've hit the nail on the head
You need money to stand out. That's the annoying reality of film. But if that's what it boils down to, what scope is there for actual talent?

It annoys me that your friends are taking that approach. Why aren't they trying something different? Trying to be resourceful? The fact is, most student films are incredibly mediocre. I'm sure they're lovely hard working people... but there are so many of them doing the same shitty thing. Anyone who makes films knows you can get away with a hell of a lot if you film it on a flashy camera.

If they think 5k is needed to put them ahead of the competition, then they don't deserve it. Sorry to be harsh.

I think you as an electronics student would be far more deserving of the money, personally.

I think we are reacting so because of how completely out of proportion your mates are taking this. Are they planning to screen it at Cannes or something? Come on, they are at university and can't make a film with five grand?

I also don't recall such lavish budgets being the requirement or expected of any university project.

It looks like shit, but still manages to demonstrate Peter Jackson's talents as a director. He only got to do the Lord of the Rings once he proved himself on smaller films.

The point of a student film, or indeed a showreel, is not to show off how much money you had to spend, but to show off what you were able to achieve with the resources available.

As a final point, if you need an example of why a large budget isn't necessarily a good thing, watch John Carter.

Peter Jackson just did it himself. No film school. No failed film graduates/professionals 'teaching' him.

Jackson, Spielberg, Ridley Scott, Christopher Nolan, Sam Mendes, Paul Greengrass - all smart, innovative filmmakers who didn't go to film school.

Zack Snyder, Michael Bay, George Lucas - all executors of stylised cliche who went to film school.

Fair play to them for trying something ambitious. If they pull of something great with this idea it will help them in future projects. How many student projects are made each year? It looks like they're trying to distinguish themselves as more than a bunch of students with a camera. £5,000/£10,000 is a lot of money for a student project but if they produce something that looks like its worth that much and helps their future career prospects then well done!

Use other people's money! You've got to admire their balls [snigger]. Good luck to them with their project. On one hand I tend to agree with the notion that it should be made on a shoestring, as that way the talent of the film makers will shine through, but a large part of film making is financing it, so bravo to them for trying this method out. In short: I don't really know.

This is a normal post Good idea really
I bet I would have given this a try in my day if I could have. Saying that, doing things the hard way can really pay off and give the film some charm that will otherwise get lost in HD saturated coloured mediocrity.
I do think the story needs a little more pizazz though. A little more spice, less wishy washy if you know what I mean. 25 mins of teens talking could be really dull if the script isn't funny/well written.
good luck though.

The "best" paedophiles (top 10 list required) will be able to cause great damage over their lifetime - remember this man died before any allegations have come to court so he must have been very good at getting away with it.
