definitely mid-atlantic, nice one picking up the slight boston bit...(it is faintly there) i am going lean towards somewhere floating between boston and cape cod... but being in education he has worked on being non location specific. (also Maine is a wonderful favourite place to have on earth) :)

This is slowly happening here in the UK
And the policy of letting the schools pay what they want/afford to teachers (ushered in by the Bullingdon Party) will destroy education in many parts of the UK. If your school doesn't get much in the way of funds then meh... crap education for little Johnny. The Bullingdon Party have just turned back clock on education, right back to where they want it.
Funny thing is, no one wanted this. There's the Government saying everyone wanted it but the teachers, unions, the schools and LEAs all said no. But hey ho, that's democracy in action...

Why should there be a one size fits all salary for public sector teachers?
In nearly every other profession, if you do your job well, take on more responsibility and inspire those around you (the kids in this case), then this gets recognised and rewarded.
Why should it be the only option available to really good teachers is a job in management or going private, neither of which helps the children?
I agree with the guy in this video, good teachers need more room to teach broad skills and general knowledge (not just passing exams) and this can only happen if the government and unions get out of their (the teachers and the schools) way.
*awaits flame*

Watch this space, or not.
That's what the government is pushing at the moment. If you get paid more then you should have more responsibilities. They are also looking to introduce regional pay.
Teachers get just as frustrated as everyone else when they have colleagues earning a lot more than them, with fewer responsibilities, rocking up late and leaving early. All jobs have lazy workers, teaching is no exception. Getting rid of an under performer who is sucking up the budget that could be spent on a good hardworking teacher is a very very long process.
The signs are there that the government wants to make schools operate more like the private sector with rewards for performance (whether this is measured correctly or not is another issue). The unions have different ideas.

Teachers are overpaid and puffed up.
And, a great many of them have spent their whole lives in school without a dose of the real world.
I had some good teachers when I was a kid but I am genuinely perplexed at the reverence we hold for this profession.

Level 12 is a pain
But all the other ones are fairly straightforward. Level 14 was a cinch. I think once you've got the concept behind completing 12 it helps with the others.
*Spoiler for 12*
From the start, move the Short block to far right of top row, and disconnect from it. Connect to the left end of Short and move it down to join Long at the bottom left. Move Short and Long together to the right and then take them to the top, where you should automatically disconnect from them. Move around to the left end of the Long block and pull it through to the other side. After you've done this, you should be able to finish it yourself.

It all descends into an arms race
How am I, as a father of twenty, supposed to keep up with my local criminals.
Yes I've just bought an F-35C, but the guy down the road has retaliated by looking slightly more arab.

As far as firearm related homicides, I think that culture has a lot to do with it. Japan's has become more centered, whereas the US culture has fragmented.
Right now, some people in the US are encouraging the murder of NRA members (with guns nonetheless) due to the shootings. Somewhat ironic.
I think putting things in perspective helps. Although, gun violence, receives wall to wall cable media coverage is a drop in the bucket when compared to drunk-driving deaths. Those receive a pathetic amount of attention from the media or legislators. The Center for Disease control states that 30 people die each day from DUI related deaths, or one every 48 minutes, but there seems to be little collective outrage.

The drunk driving problem

So, faced with an article that fairly comprehensively shows that tighter firearm control would prevent massacres and hasn't led to Japan being overrun by opportunistic gun-toting crims,
you start talking about DUIs.

( , Mon 17 Dec 2012, 21:10, Share, Reply)
I don't think it shows tighter firearm control would prevent massacres.
It is one part of a complex issue. I gave my opinion that culture may have something to do with it. If you look at Switzerland, they have higher gun ownership than the US, but less firearm related homicides.
Correlation does not equal causation.
The reason I put in the statistics about DUIs is that I find it odd that lives lost that way, or by the administration allowing firearms into Mexico causing the deaths of thousands of brown skinned people seem to garner less outrage. It is odd.

The big difference between DUIs and guns is
that cars and booze have another primary purpose other than killing people and provide some value to society if used sensibly.

I think it depends on where you store them.
Every pistol is sold with a trigger lock, but some people opt for gun safes or use barrel locks (basically a plastic covered metal cord that goes through the barrel and is locked at the end).
I do that with my rifles, but don't lock my pistols because seconds count. My dad always carried and we were taught from a young age both how to shoot and how much trouble we'd be in if we touched his pistol without permission.
I love to shoot assault rifles. Great challenge and I love the differences in each. I wouldn't keep one under my bed, though.

Basically, it makes you feel big and masculine, doesn't it?
I've shot a few guns and it is quite exciting. It's part of our culture - so many in films and games, waving guns around looking awesome.
That's fine. Keep it on the range in a secure environment and don't take them home with you. You can go out and scratch that itch and no one gets hurt. The moment you feel the need to keep a gun for defence or offence, you are a paranoid lunatic that is adding to the problem or a fucking idiot.
I can't think of one good reason why a sensible sane person with adequate faculties to make a grown up decision would need their own personal killing device and it shits on the memory of every single one of those dead children to suggest otherwise.

Not just for the U.S but eastern Europe, Mexico,Pakistan and anywhere else that has a problem with armed citizens being violent.
However I was thinking that the means needed to achieve this against the will of the population would risk civil war in the U.S and certainly in Pakistan.
Best you can do is try and remove the people's fear and desire to be armed.
It'll take years, if not decades.

You may be right. Erase the need to defend, and you erase the tools to defend.
Unfortunately, US case law has held that police have no duty to protect, only to investigate. And with some of the abuses the police have been accused of, I'm not everyone would want to put their trust exclusively there either.

A live set of acid that I did
I made this!
Noticed other people put up music on here, so thought I'd share a live set I did last year.
Predominantly acid, but encompassing hip hop, house, techno, electro, dub and old school breaks.
Free to download, too!
